Most guitar DVDs will teach you the basics, but the basics can vary among guitar playing styles. If your goal is to play rock and popular songs, a classical guitar DVD won’t help you too much. Classical guitars have a wider neck and larger spaces between the strings. The picking technique is much different, not to mention the music itself may not appeal to you at all. Even if the teacher is fabulous, it’s not worth your money if it’s not what you want to do. If you want to learn the acoustic guitar to accompany your church group or just have sing-alongs in your home, you don’t need a DVD that will teach you the most popular riffs on an electric guitar. You need to look carefully at the descriptions to find the best guitar lesson DVD to suit your style.
Another thing to consider is your ability level. If you already have some basic knowledge and can play a few things, you don’t need a guitar DVD that teaches the same basic notes over and over like you were a total beginner. If you are a total beginner, though, you don’t want to watch guitar videos that are geared to a more experienced player. You will be lost and probably frustrated trying to learn quickly and catch up. All you “Back to the Future” fans will know this very well with Michael J. Fox performing this with the Starlighters in the movie. The awesome part about this song is that with very simple techniques, this song can sound really impressive if you are performing for some family or friends. The “12 bar blues” chord progression is relatively easy to learn because it is just centered on A D and E chords.

What to Look For When Searching For a Great Guitar
September 6th, 2010 When I am searching for a guitar there is a couple things I know to look for. Some are because of preference, others out of whats required for a guitar to be considered “Worth its Value”.
Now, The first thing you need to know about all guitars is that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
Unless you know for sure what your buying is legit, save save save your money. Buy the right guitar at the best price you can afford. Don’t cheap out and buy junk — you’ll wish you hadn’t. Its true many cheap guitars look nice and seem alright, but believe me, looks are deceiving! You know what they say, ‘beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes all the way through!’.
Okay, If I want to buy a guitar that’s going to be used to its fullest potential then there are 4 basic things I look for:
1) Good Quality Wood – A guitar is no better than the wood its made out of. Some of the woods that I like to see in guitars are woods like koa, Ash, Mahogany (Very Expensive), Korina (Even More) and thats just a few to mention. You don’t want a guitar made from your backyard tree. All in all the wood should be aged, the older the better, and you should research what types of wood make different tones.
2) Decent Amplification – I love a guitar that sounds as good in the house (Amplified) as it does just by itself. This Site I found has a guy playing an acoustic with just about every pickup out there. You can learn what sounds good and go from there
3) Guitar Scent – wood glue is the devil. So many times I’ve seen people with very cheep guitars that have been assembled with wood glue and smell just like it. This is a tone robber and will make your guitar sound muddy. I know its virtually impossible to be able to smell a guitar online. But if you can go to a music store and checkout places like guitar center and take a look a couple guitars (that will most likely be over priced) and you will be able to tell the difference. I haven’t seen a taylor with this problem. I have seen many fender acoustics that have this.
4) A Great Feel – There is some great guitars out there. But, there even more guitars that are defiantly not what your looking for. When you pickup a great guitar, you just know its great. But why is that? The reason is because of the feel of the neck. The action, The neck roundness, the intonation, the frets. The only way your going to get a great guitar with these features. The name. The reason we buy the brand name is because we know what were getting. Taylor is a great trusted brand and if you want that “Great Feel” your going to have to go with a great brand.
Of course, there are a lot more variables to consider, but these 4 things are essential clues that you have a great guitar in your hands.
Most Taylors will have exactly what your looking for but its buyer beware when it comes to buying a new or used guitar online. Remember, the cheapest does not always equal the best deal, but you don’t have to take the first price you see.

This article will show you how to make the best use of free guitar chord charts that you can find online. As the internet changes, sites go down and new ones come up, so I won’t risk this resource going out of date by discussing where to find your free guitar chord charts, just how to use them to kick start your guitar playing. You can easily get together a nice collection of chord charts and lyrics to your favorite songs to help you learn to play the guitar. If you feel that you should be learning a whole bunch ofmusical theory and how to read musical notation, but somehow feel it’s just not you, then that’s okay – start with what you feel most enthusiastic about. Once you have started to learn using guitar chord charts you have bought or downloaded for free, you might see as you go along that you will need to know a little bit aboutmusical theory to see how chords and scales fit together. If, however, you are comfortable learning chords to your favorite songs, then keep at it. So let’s start with the basic baby steps and work up to some really useful knowledge about guitar chords and how the dots on the charts relate tomusical sounds. You know the frets on your guitar’s neck somehow show you where the notes are, so let’s get a little more technical. You will see when you use scale charts to learn to play guitar tunes that in a given position on the fret board, you will sometimes need to move up or down one fret or two frets. If you play the note at the first fret, and then move up to the second fret, you have moved up a semitone. If you have moved up two frets, it’s called a tone. The distance between the notes E and F or B and C is a tone. The distance between the notes C and D is a tone. So as you learn songs in different keys you will start to see that what you are playing when you play scales is different patterns of tones or semi tones on the guitar neck. If you have watched guitarists play you will have noticed that sometimes they place their index finger across all six strings. This is called a barre. When you begin to learn songs you will be making use of chords played in the FIRST position on the fret board. These are mostly open chords, that is chords that do not make use of the barre. You can try to play barre chords any time, but it’s a bit ambitious to expect to be able to use them until after your hands have done some practice with open chords. When you are learning chords to accompany songs, you will probably make use of your chord charts showing you chords that use all the guitar’s strings. But if you want to get into playing solos start with the three note chords called triads. The three notes in a triad are the basic notes of your chord, so by learning triads you will begin to see how the guitar chords are structured. Also you can move your triads up and down the fret board to make new chords.
